The thing that stands out most about Mykoskia Vicks (who answers to her childhood nickname of “Boots”) is her warm and inviting demeanor. She describes herself as hilarious and as someone who enjoys a good laugh. As you’ll read in the following interview, she’s the type of caregiver who loves her job, her family and her clients. She doesn’t shy away from what some would consider a “difficult case.” In fact, those are the times she most relies on her training, humor and quick wit to win her clients over.
How did you get into being a caregiver?
I first became a caregiver in my early twenties. Even then, I always had a heart for helping people.
Is there anything about your family or background that makes you especially passionate about caregiving?
I had an uncle who had cancer. When he was put on hospice, he decided he wanted to transition at home. I cared for him in those last days making sure he was comfortable. I just wanted to make sure he was happy before he left this earth.
Why did you choose Keyline?
My cousin works at Keyline. After working two jobs in other fields, I was ready to get back into caregiving. When hearing from my cousin that Keyline was a great place to work, I got excitedly instantly. So I decided to apply for a job and met Bernae who runs the Villa Rica office. I immediately learned she wasn’t looking for people to fill shifts but was looking for people who love to care for others.
Has it made a difference in your life?
I’ve always been passionate about caring for people. My mother would often say that I was like my grandmother in that way. Working for Keyline is a great way for me to be able to do that.
